Take Apart A Jewelry Armoire

A jewelry armoire can hold a large amount of jewelry in an organized fashion.

A jewelry armoire is a type of jewelry box that sits on legs like a traditional wardrobe armoire. The jewelry armoire can be small enough to sit on top of a dresser or other surface, but it can also be large enough to stand alone. It is necessary to take an armoire apart for easier moving, and to stain or paint the armoire for a different look. Taking apart the armoire is a simple process that requires a few basic tools.

Instructions

1. Remove all hardware from the jewelry armoire. Unscrew the knobs, drawer pulls and hinges. Set the doors and drawers aside.

2. Inspect the box and determine whether any screws are used to hold the legs on or to hold other parts of the box together. Depending on the original construction, the joints may use glue, screws, pins or a combination of these methods.

3. Unscrew any screws holding the sides of the armoire together. Set the screws aside.

4. Heat the joints with a heat gun or hair dryer to loosen the glue between the pieces of the armoire. Insert a putty knife between each part to scrape away the glue while it is soft and pliable.

5. Pull the remaining pieces apart with your hands. Wear work gloves to protect your fingers and hands. If there are pins or wood joints holding the pieces together, you may have to tap the sides with a rubber mallet to loosen the armoire's pieces from each other.

6. Remove any remaining glue from each piece by scraping the glue away with a sharp craft knife. The brittle glue should peel away easily.
