Make A Mission In "Smallworlds"

Mission-making is an interactive aspect of the social gaming site, "SmallWorlds," which allows players to write and program story and puzzle-based quests involving a series of tasks. Missions are based on an original story written by the player or an adaptation of popular books, movies, games and television shows. Players create missions by inputting text into the editing interface and setting up corresponding interactions on a set of items located in a private space. When the mission is finished, other users on the site can play and receive token rewards based on their completion time.

Instructions

Mission Details

1. Navigate to the "Smallworlds" website and login. Travel in-world and click the hat icon at the bottom of the window to open the "Missions" panel. Select "Custom" from the filtering options, then click "Add Mission."

2. Type the mission details in the appropriate fields, including the title, description, the completion text that will appear at the end of the mission, an entry fee and the experience level required. You can set the entry fee and level to zero if the mission is free or requires no prior experience.

3. Use the drop-down arrows to choose an experience path and panel style from each list. Experience paths include Social, Explorer, Gamer and Artist. Choose from a Modern, Futuristic or Antique task panel. Save the changes.

Mission Setup

4. Select the new mission in the "Custom" panel, then click "Add Task." Enter a name for the task, a description and the completion text. The description is a part of the narrative that tells a player what action to perform. The completion text is the information displayed after the task is completed.

5. Choose an action from the "Completed by" drop-down list. This section determines what action the player must perform to complete the task. Possible actions include speaking, interacting with items, using an item on another avatar, whispering to someone or entering a space.

6. Select the corresponding action for completing the task. For example, if you chose speaking as the completion form, type the words the player is required to say in the text box. Click "Save."

7. Click on the item you want players to interact with. Select the wrench icon and open the "Interactions" menu.

8. Click "Add" in the "Actions" tab to create a custom button and type the button label in the text box. You can also leave the default button enabled for certain items.

9. Open the "Reactions" tab and click "Add." Search for the button you created in the drop-down list labeled "React when." Choose an alternate reaction condition, such as proximity, if the interaction doesn't require clicking on the item.

10. Choose a corresponding reaction from the drop-down list at the bottom of the menu, such as "Show a message" or "Teleport the avatar." Enter the details for the reaction you chose.

11. Add a time delay in seconds if you want to delay the start of the reaction. Save the settings. Repeat all steps for each task.
