Military Uses Of Oak Furniture

The military often uses oak furniture.

Oak furniture is often solid and well-made and used in a number of different rooms, ranging from residential homes to office buildings. Due to the fact that it is sturdy, relatively cheap and easy to construct, the military has been known to use oak furniture for a number of different purposes.

Soldier's Barracks

Oak furniture is used in barracks for soldiers who are staying on a base to sleep on, store things within, sit in or work at. These pieces of oak furniture range from beds, chairs, desks, and drawers, which can be placed in soldiers' and officers' rooms or in the common areas where soldiers spend time when they are not training, working or involved in combat operations. Not only are these pieces of furniture inexpensive to purchase, they are also relatively durable and able to withstand constant use by different people over a number of years, which in turn saves the military money.

Training Purposes

Old, broken pieces of oak furniture can be stocked in training settings for soldiers to shoot at or use for drilling purposes. These drills are usually meant for new recruits to the Army, Marines or a special forces unit who train with automatic weapons. The pieces of oak furniture can be used to stock bullets on shooting ranges or be set up to simulate war torn residential or urban environments which soldiers may find themselves and have to navigate.

Barricade and Material Use

In situations where military forces need extra supplies for structures, barricades against the enemy or wood for fuel, oak furniture can be broken down and used. As these pieces of furniture are generally of simple construction, they are somewhat easy to break apart and install on forts or used to support walls of sandbags on the front combat lines. Oak also makes good firewood for soldiers who may need it for kindling in dire circumstances, allowing military forces who are under siege the ability to subsist and survive for a longer period of time.
