Write A Grant Proposal For A Daycare

Daycares often rely on grants and other sources of funding to begin or expand their programs.

Opening or expanding a daycare can require an extensive amount of funding, which may be difficult to find. Grants for daycare or childcare facilities often have restrictions and may only be available for a daycare run by churches. If you have found a funder that suits your business or organization, then it is imperative that you write a grant proposal for your daycare to pursue the funding you need.

Instructions

1. Create a budget with the income and expenses for the current and next fiscal year of your daycare and include all of your operating expenses for salaries, insurance, supplies and other expenses. Include the income that you will receive from providing day care.

2. Determine the most pressing needs of your day care by carefully evaluating any differences between the income and expenses.

3. Develop a cover sheet for the grant proposal for your day care. Begin by typing out the date of your application, the name of your organization, purpose of the grant, the organizational address, telephone number, name of executive director or other contact person, non-profit tax identification number, the amount of the grant request, organizational budget, dates of the fiscal year, total project budget and the project name.

4. Write your cover letter or executive summary of the organization, including the date and address of the foundation to which you are applying. State that your daycare is pleased to submit your request for review and that you look forward to a partnership. State the proposal amount and explain what you plan to use the daycare funds for and how it will benefit the daycare. You should state how your daycare has succeeded in its efforts. Close the executive summary by thanking the foundation for reviewing your application. Close the cover letter with sincerely and the name and title of the executive direction. Make sure that the cover letter is printed on the daycare's letterhead and signed by the director of the daycare.

5. Develop your grant proposal by introducing its history and mission. If affiliated with a church or other religious organization, you should state the affiliation. Outline your organization's accomplishments and programs. If your daycare offers programs for different age groups or tutoring, outline each specific program.

6. Write the statement of the problem that you should address and make a request for a specific amount of money and the purpose of the funding. Explain what your program will offer to the community, how many youth you will provide childcare for, and how you may help those of low-income status. Explain the current lack of service in your area by providing statistics about the number of current childcare providers and demonstrate the need. Include information on your project activities and your target population for the daycare. You should include current obstacles to reaching your goal and tie in the funder's interest with your daycare.

7. Outline the goals and objectives of your organization so that the foundation knows what your daycare plans to accomplish and the time line for accomplishments. You should also include a plan for measuring the project results or an evaluative method, such as tracking participation and attendance, keeping accurate records of expenditures, measuring satisfaction and other areas.

8. Outline the key staff of the organization and include resumes. If you need to hire more staff, outline what areas you need staff for, what you may, and whether they will have employment full or part time. You may also explain what qualifications you are looking for in potential candidates.

9. Attach your supportive documentation, including letters of support that you may have from organizations with which your daycare collaborates, budgetary information and taxes from the previous year.
