Make Vehicle Paint Skins On Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

"Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" is a large, open world action game available for play on computers and consoles. The open size and scope of the game makes it a popular title for modification, and there are many sites dedicated to user-generated content. A big part of the game is the vehicles, and while you can download custom vehicles, it is more fun to create your own paint jobs for cars in the game. In addition to the game itself, you will need some extra programs to make your own vehicle skins.

Instructions

1. Make a backup of your "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" game folder. Modifying files can cause the game to stop working if you make a mistake, so having a backup allows you to restore it. Depending on how much drive space you have, backup either the entire game folder or the "Models" folder only.

2. Navigate to The GTA Place website (Resource 1), and click download to get the "txd-workshop" program. This small utility allows you to change the textures in "Grand Theft Auto" games, including the car paint skins in "San Andreas."

3. Right-click on the downloaded file, and select "Extract all" to unzip the contents to your hard drive. Double-click the "txdworkshop.exe" file to start the program.

4. Click "File," then "Open," and select the vehicle you want to create a custom paint skin for. The files will be in "txd" format and can be found in the subfolder of the game folder.

5. Right-click on your desktop, and select "New," then "Folder," and name it "New Paint Skin." Click the pictures on the left side of the program window, and then click "Export" at the top of the screen. Specify the "New Paint Skin" folder on your desktop as the location to save the files. Now, you have all the images that make up the car in a format readable by any image editing program.

6. Start the image editing program of your choice, and open the files in the "New Paint Skin" folder. You can use the "Paint" application that comes free with Windows, or something more advanced, like paint.net (Resource 2) or Gimp (Resource 3).

7. Change the vehicle paint using the brush tools in your image editor. You can customize as many or as few aspects of the original vehicle skin as you wish. When you are finished, select "File," then "Save" to overwrite the original vehicle paint skin with your new one.

8. Click on the old picture in the "txd-workshop" program, and then click "Import." Replace the old picture with your new one. For example, if the old picture you click is the roof of the car, select the new roof you created in your image editor. Do this for all the parts of the car.

9. Click "Save txd" to finalize your changes and make the new vehicle paint skin available in the game. Each vehicle can have only four paint schemes, and you can change between them by driving to the spray shops throughout the game.
