Set Up Zone & Rule For Eset

ESET Smart Security includes antivirus, antispyware, antispam and firewall features. The program automatically blocks incoming traffic by default, but includes advanced firewall zone and rule settings which allow you to block or allow traffic that matches specified rules or zones. Rules allow you to manage traffic on a per-port or application basis. Zones allow you to configure certain IPs to be trusted or untrusted and allow or deny all traffic to these addresses.

Instructions

1. Click the "Setup" link at the left side of the ESET window and click "Entire Advanced Setup Tree" in the main window.

2. Click "Personal Firewall" in the list at the left side of the options window.

3. Click the "Filtering Mode" box and click "Automatic Mode with Exceptions (User-Defined Rules)."

4. Click "Rules and Zones" under the "Personal Firewall" header.

5. Click the "Setup" button in the "Zone and Rule Editor" section.

6. Create a new rule by clicking "New."

7. Configure a name, direction, action and protocol for the rule using the "Name," "Direction," "Action" and "Protocol" boxes on the page.

8. Restrict the rule to a specific application by clicking the "Local" tab, clicking "Browse," browsing to the application's .exe file on your computer and double-clicking it. You can also restrict the rule to a specific local or remote port by clicking the "Local" or "Remote" tabs and typing the port's number into the "Port" box.

9. Save the rule by clicking "OK."

10. Click the "Zones" tab.

11. Add an IP address to a zone such as the "Trusted Zone" by clicking the zone's name in the list, clicking "Edit," clicking "Add IPv4 Address," typing the IP address into the "Address" box and clicking "OK" twice.

12. Save the zone and rule settings by clicking "OK."
