Install The Windows Installer Package

To get the latest updates for your computer and efficiently install some programs by Microsoft, you need to install the latest version of Windows Installer on your computer. Before you get to your updates on Windows Update, it prompts you to install the latest version of Windows Installer at times. Updating your computer through this utility gives you the best way of acquiring the latest version of Windows Installer.


Instructions


1. Open Internet Explorer and go to the Windows Update URL at Microsoft.com. You can only access Windows Update through Internet Explorer or the Control Panel in your operating system. If you see a prompt asking you to install Windows Installer, go ahead and let Windows Update install it. Otherwise, continue on to the next steps.


2. Click the "Custom" button on the Windows Update Web page and wait until your computer's scan is complete. This can take between five to 30 minutes, depending on your Internet connection and the utilities installed on your computer.


3. Click the links on the navigation area to the left of the new page (particularly the "High Priority Updates" link) and search for an item called "Windows Installer Package" or simply "Windows Installer." Make sure to click the checkboxes next to all items labeled this way.


4. Click the link on the top of the navigation area labeled "Install Updates."


5. Click the button on the top of the main area of the page labeled "Install Updates." Wait for the installer to finish and restart the computer if it prompts you to.
