Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Upholster a Foot Stool

1. Measure the surface of the foot stool you intend to upholster. Cut a piece of sturdy fabric six inches wider on all sides. For example, if your foot stool measure 13 inches by 11 inches, cut your fabric to measure 19 inches by 17 inches.

2. Cut a piece of foam to the same size as the surface of the stool. Spray adhesive on the surface of the stool and apply the foam on top. Smooth to ensure adhesion.

3. Cut two pieces of batting, 2 inches wider on all sides than your foot stool. Spray adhesive on the foam surface and center the first piece of batting on top. Smooth to ensure adhesion and to avoid any bubbles or wrinkles. Trim to fit.

4. Apply the second piece of batting by spraying the surface of the batting that's already in place. Smooth and trim. Apply a third piece of batting, if you desire.

5. Lay out your fabric on the work surface with the right side down. Center the foot stool on the fabric.

6. Turn the edge of one side of the fabric and gently pull it over the back of the stool. Staple the fabric into place. Repeat on the opposite side. Repeat the same steps for the remaining two sides. Hammer down any staples that don't go in all the way.

7. Continue working around the edge of the stool. Gently pull an edge of the fabric while tucking it over on itself. Then staple to the bottom of the foot stool. While you work, be sure the fabric stays taut, to avoid wrinkles.

8. If you're upholstering a square foot stool, tuck the corners by first stapling the short side of fabric, then pulling the longer side over it stapling it.

9. Make any minor adjustments necessary to ensure the fabric lies smooth and taut across the top surface of the foot stool. You may need to remove a staple and pull the fabric tighter, or rearrange a fold.
