The Occupational Safety & Health Administration notes that a good working position --- such as sitting up straight, head level and hands, wrists and forearms straight --- can greatly reduce the strain on muscles, tendons and the skeletal system.
Purpose
Although ergonomics may be a goofy issue to discuss at workplace, employers tend to greatly benefit from it. So, it is not that employees miss time at work because of the emphasis on ergonomics. Rather, it ensures that the company meets its productivity levels and continues to generate sales revenue.
Considerations
In a 2006 survey Steelcase, a furniture manufacturer, found that only 20 percent of 700 office workers knew the correct definition of ergonomics. Companies should consider implementing a training program so that managers and employees know the definition of ergonomics and learn properly use the knowledge.
