Paint Spanish Cedar

Select the right size brush for the project.

Spanish cedar is naturally resistant to decay, and if left unpainted it will weather to a soft gray. However, unfinished exterior wood will become less attractive if it cracks or warps. Protecting Spanish cedar with quality paint will protect it from the elements. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Wipe the wood with a cotton cloth and rubbing alcohol. Hold the cloth in your hand and pour enough alcohol on the cloth to dampen it. Rub the wood with the cloth to remove any tannins that might be present on the surface.

2. Apply a primer paint to seal the wood and allow the paint to dry completely. Choose a paint brush to accommodate the size of the project. Large projects will be finished faster when the brush is wide. Painting a door or window frame requires a brush width of 1 or 1-1/2 inches.

3. Paint the wood with a reputable brand of latex paint. Clean the brush according to the recommended directions on the paint can.

4. Wait for the latex paint to dry and apply talcum power to the surface if the painted object is a door or frame. Apply with a soft cloth and dust off remaining powder. Talcum powder will prevent the paint from sticking to other painted surfaces.
