Ideas For Southwestern Bars In Kitchens

Bring the southwestern United States into your kitchen.

If you like "southwestern" decor and themes for your home, then you may also enjoy incorporating the rich, natural colors of the southwestern United States into a bar in your kitchen. There are a variety of ways to get the southwestern feel--some as easy as adding a few southwestern decor items to the surface of the bar and others a little more time- and labor-intensive. Be creative and choose elements that appeal to your personal aesthetic. Does this Spark an idea?

Southwestern Tiles

Use tiles that are in the "southwestern color family." Think mustard yellow, turquoise, terra cotta and a variety of browns and earthy colors. The key to southwestern style is mixing nuetrals with vibrant colors. You can get the look of Mexican terra cotta tiles, which are common for kitchen floors, by selecting a glossier version in the brown or red family.

Stainless Steel and Woven Fibers

Add charm--and a little modern flair--to a southwestern-themed kitchen by using a mix of stainless steel and woven fibers. For example, install a stainless steel counter top for your bar, and then nestle wooden bar chairs with woven fiber seats under the bar. You can paint the wooden chairs a bold blue or red to extend the southwestern feel of the bar area.

Southwestern Barware

Arrange southwestern-themed barware on the surface of your bar. Some ideas include margarita glasses and a margarita pitcher, cactus-themed glassware, a blue or red ceramic salsa-and-chips plate, a tray of tequila shot glasses, and a stack of brightly-colored cloth napkins or dish towels for cleaning up any messes. Incorporating wood and pottery elements also extends the southwestern theme, so consider arranging a few wood or ceramic bowls for pretzels, peanuts or other bar snacks.
