Inspired by Phoenix
A saguaro in bloom can inspire decorative touches.
Phoenix, Arizona is in a valley, surrounded by mountains and desert. With palm trees, cacti and sunny skies as inspiration, you can paint walls a light cream, and use saguaro green for trimming out the doorjamb and baseboards. Hang illustrations or photos of palm trees or cacti; purchase a metal waste basket with a palm tree design, or decoupage one yourself. Coordinating bath towels and washcloths in light green hues and adding a vase with white daisies complete this Phoenix-inspired bathroom.
Santa Fe Sensation
Mimic roof logs by using two shades of brown paint in a six-inch circle.
Santa Fe, New Mexico is known as an artist's paradise: Earthen adobe colors and bright accents can be found in the old-town area. You can get the Santa Fe vibe in your bathroom by painting the walls a jalapeno orange and the trim in a light sunset. Draw or trace six-inch-diameter circles six inches apart a few inches from the top on the longest wall; paint the circles with brown paint. When the brown dries, sponge light brown paint lightly on to it. Purchase a small Navajo woven rug for a wall hanging. Marigold-colored towels and a wicker waste basket with a bright red ribbon complete the Santa Fe bathroom.
Colorado High
Pinecone accents complement a Colorado-themed bathroom.
The green forests of Colorado inspire a bathroom done in pale greens and blues. Paint the walls rockwood dark green and the trim aloe; apply a wallpaper border of pinecones around the top of the walls. Accents include towels in the palest blue-greens and a dark wicker wastebasket. Fill a glass jar with pinecones and set on the counter or back of the toilet.
Utah's Arches
The sandstone arches of Utah can be the inspiration for making over your bathroom.
The sandstone arches that Utah is known for can inspire a bathroom with a faux finish. Paint walls smoky salmon and trim them in oak creek. Using a sponge, lightly stipple eight-inch "veins" of coral diagonally across the walls to mimic uplifted sandstone. Use bright red towels, and hang a photo of Utah's famous Arches National Park on the wall. A brown acrylic wastebasket and a dark vase with dried grasses finish the room.
