Baby or child beds don't have to be tossed out after your child outgrows them. You can recycle or reuse the crib, headboard or footboard, in addition to recycling the mattress. You can donate the mattress to a charity, or give it to a friend or relative who may be in need of one. In addition, you can try selling the mattress locally at a yard sale or online. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Take apart the crib or bed using a screwdriver. Set aside all of the extra parts such as screws, bolts and brackets. In addition, set aside any of the crib or bed legs that cannot be reused or recycled.
2. Take the slatted sides of the crib and hang them on the walls in your child's playroom or bedroom. He can use the slats to hold artwork, photos or mementos. You can paint the slats different colors to give them individuality as well.
3. Take the slatted sides of the crib and place them in the garden to use as a trellis for plants and flowers. Be prepared for weathering and discoloring of the wood.
4. Take a crib side (whether they have slats or not) and drill six to eight large hooks into one side of it. Hang the piece in your kitchen to use as a pot holder.
5. Use the crib sides to make a new headboard for a bed.
