Ice Breaker Games For Baby Showers

Baby shower games can be a good way to introduce party-goers.

Almost everyone has experienced those awkward moments at a party where guests don't know each other. Baby showers are a way to get to meet new friends, have fun and celebrate the upcoming birth of a new bundle of joy, but some of the guests may be strangers, or diverse friends are coming together from different sides of baby’s family. Ice breaker games can help acquaint, relax and entertain guests at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?

Baby, Don't Say It.

Pass out a diaper pin or old-fashioned clothespin to each guest as she comes in. Tell her that she is not to say the word "baby" during the party, which will be difficult since it’s a baby shower. When a guest says the word, the first person who calls her out gets to take the pin. The person with the most pins at the end of the shower gets a prize.

What's in Your Purse?

This game is like a scavenger hunt for purses and allows guests to learn about one another by the contents of the ladies' purses. The hostess reads a list of items that guests try to find in their purses. Point values are assigned for items; one point for a compact, five points for a pair of tweezers or pack of gum, or 10 points for a black and white photo. The more unique an item is, the higher the point value. If men are also included at the shower, the same game can be played with the contents of their wallet with paper items such as old movie tickets, their own baby photos, and so on. The guest with the most points at the end of the game wins a prize.

Double Duty Diaper Tag Team

Pair up two strangers into teams. Each team must diaper a toy doll. To add a twist, guests can only use one of their hands, and the other hand must be held behind their back. The other hand can not touch the diaper in any way, and guests must work in sync with their partner’s hand to get it done. To make it more difficult, forgo the easier to attach plastic diaper and use a cloth diaper with a traditional diaper pin. The team who diapers the doll quickest wins a prize.

Who's Your Mama?

Prepare for this baby shower ice breaker by researching quotes about babies or mothers. For instance, "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." Jot down the quotes on individual index cards. On another card, write down the name of the person who said it. When guests arrive, pin a quote or a person’s name on each shirt or sweater. As the guests mingle, it’s up to them to try to match up with the person to whom the quote is attributed. This is a good way for people who are strangers to feel connected. During the party, answers can be revealed to see how everyone did.
