Protect peach trees from frost to keep them healthy.
Depending on the variety, some peach trees are more cold-tolerant than others. However, peach trees are more susceptible to frost damage near the end of their winter dormancy. A cold snap in early spring could blight the future blossoms. When you know that the threat of frost is possible, you can take action to protect your trees. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Spread mulch around the base of the tree. Keep it 12 inches away from the trunk. This will insulate the roots.
2. Wrap the trunk and branches of the peach trees with sheets or cloth that will not weigh the branches down.
3. Cover the tree with a plant cover made from woven fabric. Secure the plant tarp in place with sandbags or bricks. Remove the tarp during the day so that the tree receives sunlight. The tarp will trap ground heat and keep moisture off the peach tree.
4. Wrap Christmas lights around the tree. Turn the lights on at night to keep the tree warm.
