Party Cake Ideas For Kids

Make a tiara-shaped cake for a little princess party.

Make a cake for a children's party that immediately grabs the kids' attention and becomes the party's centerpiece. Use the party's theme as a guide to choose the design for the cake and consider a three-dimensional design with fondant decorations for a professional-looking party treat. Make the cake up to 48 hours before the party for time to correct any errors and then enjoy the smiles and comments the cake brings at the special event. Does this Spark an idea?

Animals

Choose an animal-themed cake that coordinates with the party's theme. For a barnyard party theme, make a three-dimensional cow, horse or pig cake, or turn a rectangular sheet cake into a barnyard full of animal-shaped cookies. For a safari or jungle-themed party, make a two-tier cake decorated with green fondant and plastic or fondant safari animal figurines. Make a tyrannosaurus rex cake for a dinosaur-themed party, or cover a rectangular sheet cake with chocolate cookie crumbs and fill it with bone-shaped cookies for a dinosaur dig cake.

Fairytale

When the party group is made up of little princesses or princes, make a two-tier cake in the shape of a fairytale castle with cake pillars for the castle lookouts. Cake decorators can also make a three-dimensional princess doll cake using a cake baked in an oven-safe bowl and a real princess doll --- the doll is placed in the upside-down bowl shape to look as if she's wearing a ballgown. Other fairytale cake ideas to consider include a unicorn cake baked in a unicorn or horse-shaped cake pan, a square cake cut and decorated to look like a knight's shield or a cake cut to look like a magic wand. For a party group that loves fairytale stories, use a book-shaped cake pan and write the words from a favorite fairytale on the pages. Decorate the cake further by turning it into a pop-up book by adding a three-dimensional shape of a castle, princess or dragon to the center of the book.

Movies

For a movie-themed party, consider a cake in the shape of a clapboard, a roll of film or a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. For the guest of honor's favorite movie, make a cake that looks like the movie's poster using edible frosting images, or decorate the cake as a scene from the movie and use plastic or fondant figurines of the characters. For a party at a movie theater, make a cake in the shape of a popcorn container and top the cake with yellow-tinted marshmallows to look like popcorn.

Sports

For a party group comprising children of any age, make a cake in the shape of a sports ball, such as a basketball or soccer ball, using a sports ball cake pan set. Cheer on a favorite team with a cake cut and decorated to look like a sports team jersey with the favorite team's emblem cut from a sheet of fondant. Other sports-related cake ideas include a cake decorated to look like a bowling lane with fondant bowling balls and pins, a football field with fondant football players or a round cake stacked six to eight layers tall to make a golf club bag with fondant golf clubs protruding from the top.
