Make A Home Office Colorful

Make a Home Office Colorful

If you work from home, you probably spend a lot of time in the same room--your home office. Most home offices are pretty basic with a desk, a chair and some bookcases, which is why they can get boring and impact your creativity and concentration. Making a home office colorful is not only soothing, it can also improve your mood and make you look forward to the time spent there.

Instructions

1. Start with the walls and floor. If you own your home or are allowed to repaint your rental, changing the color of the walls can have a big impact on how alive your home office looks and feels. Even if everything else is muted colors, a vibrant color on the walls can change the total look of the space. When it comes to the floor, the easiest way to change the look of a room is to add a large rug of a contrasting color. Rugs are easier to set up and provide more impact than carpet, as they can be chosen to contrast with the floor underneath.

2. Replace the curtains. Rather than having just blinds on the windows, choose long drapes that reach the floor. Even when open, the drapes will provide a touch of color against the backdrop of the walls.

3. Choose one or two pieces of furniture in sharp colors. There is no rule that office chairs have to be black or beige. Many companies are now making chairs in a variety of colors. Some even give you the option of changing covers so you can rotate the look. If replacing your chair is not an option, buy a colorful cushion or chair pad to sit on top of it.

4. Bring plants and flowers into the room. Keep containers with water away from computers and books. Set plants by the window or in planters, or find a low bookcase and place a cactus or other plant that requires little watering on top.

5. Hang a picture on the wall. Find something big to make a statement, or create a collage with a lot of smaller images that have a common theme. If you are reluctant to damage your walls, frame a few of those images and place them on bookcases, tables and windowsills.
