Make A Child Size Chair

Children grow so quickly that pint-sized furniture is outgrown in short order. Bulky plastic chairs are uncomfortable and rigid. Wood chairs often break and require extensive gluing and repair. Easy chairs for children are a must for busy parents. One style of chair that is easy to make and won't tax your wallet but will give your child a sense of appropriate-sized ownership is the classic bean bag chair. This bean bag chair has an optional opening that allows for the foam peanuts to be removed, so the cover can be washed and dried in order to prolong the life of the chair.

Instructions

1. Pin the two fabric circles right sides together.

2. Sew the fabric circles together, leaving a 4-inch gap.

3. If opting for the opening, sew the edges of the 4-inch gap over onto the wrong side of the fabric so no raw edges are exposed on the right side of fabric.

4. If opting for the opening, sew each section of the 4-inch long Velcro tape to the wrong sides of the fabric on the hemmed edges of the 4-inch gap.

5. Turn sewn-together fabric inside out.

6. Stuff the bean bag with foam pellets/peanuts.

7. If opting for no opening, hand sew the 4-inch gap closed with matching thread. Button thread works best because of its strength.

8. If you've used the Velcro on the opening, connect the Velcro and close. You may want to hand sew lightly together. Stitches can be removed before opening and washing. This prevents little hands from exploring and subsequently dumping foam peanuts all over.
