Landscape Ideas With A Sunroom

A bird feeder outside your sunroom guarantees bird watching opportnirs.

A sunroom is an ideal home addition if you want to enjoy the scenery in your backyard through all four seasons. However, it can sometimes be challenging to figure out the best landscaping design after adding a sunroom because the layout of your yard has changed. To make the most of both your yard and sunroom, look for landscaping options that create a sense of unity between the two spaces or allow you to enjoy both spaces at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?

Add a Deck

Most homeowners add a sunroom to their home so they can increase their living space and enjoy the outdoors year round. To further expand your home and provide space for outdoor entertaining, consider adding a deck to your sunroom.

During the spring and summer, your home will have plenty of room for barbecues and picnics, while in the colder months, you can still enjoy your backyard's landscape from the warmth of your sunroom. If you install a deck that spans the entire backside of your home, it can also help integrate your sunroom with the rest of the house and give your yard a more unified look.

Trellis or Arbor

While your sunroom is an ideal spot to take in the outdoors from the comfort of your home, you may not want to leave yourself on display to neighbors and passersby. Place a trellis, arbor or other garden screen outside your sunroom and wrap flowering vines around it to create an attractive and colorful privacy wall. If you have an entrance off your sunroom, you can also use an arbor to make the entryway stand out and create a more welcoming vibe for the area.

Bird Feeder

If you are an avid bird watcher or animal enthusiast, one of the best things about a sunroom is that you can watch the wildlife in your yard without disturbing them. To ensure a steady stream of birds, squirrels and other animals outside your sunroom, hang a bird or squirrel feeder from a tree directly opposite the room.

A birdbath or bird house is an effective option as well because birds and other animals will make frequent stops in your yard. You may also want to plant plants known to attract butterflies outside your sunroom, such as marigolds, zinnias or mint, so you can observe them from your sunroom.

Water Feature

Having attractive scenery to gaze at from your sunroom is important but adding a water feature outside the space also provides the soothing sounds of running water. You can buy fountains at most garden supply and home improvement stores and they are relatively easy to install.

A waterfall and attached pond is a more complex option but it can add an air of drama to your yard that you may enjoy. Whatever water feature you decide on, position it so you can see and hear it from your sunroom to create a relaxing atmosphere for the space.
