Black ants
are usually referred to to simply as "ants" because of how common they are.
Black ants, or carpenter ants as they are more universally known, are a genus of ant that is found in most regions of the United States. They are a common pest in homes and gardens and have earned an infamous reputation for destroying garden crops and infesting homes to the point of being a health hazard. However, there are several ways that black ants can be killed safely and effectively. Does this Spark an idea?
Location
The first thing that you will need to do is locate where the origin point of the ant's entry is. This may be difficult to do because black ants are so small and do not require much space to get into a home. If you cannot determine where they are entering, you should still determine the location of their colony. Destroying the ants at the colony will send the rest of the ants into chaos, causing them to flee the area or die due to a lack of support. No matter what you use to kill them, it should be done at the colony itself.
Ant Bait
Ant bait is a type of pheromone that can be laid in certain areas that will draw ants to its location. Ant bait itself actually does not kill the ant, but rather, draws the ants out of hiding so that they can be killed with alternative methods. Ant bait can be paired with traps that will kill the ants, though these are expensive and take time to set up. Simply drawing the ants out and using spray or poison will prove much more effective
Ant Sprays
Ant sprays are the fastest and most convenient way to kill large numbers of black ants with little to no effort. All you have to do is spray the colony and any other area that you have noticed an excess of ants in. Also spray the perimeter of your house and yard once or twice with the spray which will give you a line of support to prevent a future infestation. However, these sprays do wear off, so you will need to do this several times during the warmer seasons of the year where ants are most prevalent.
Ant Poison
A longer lasting ant destruction method is ant poison. These are liquids or powders that are scattered in certain areas of the home or around the house that ants will be drawn to, but killed upon getting too close. Ant poison, however, does use stronger toxins, so it is less safe. Ant poison will last for as long as six months, but will begin to lose intensity at around four months, so reapplication is still beneficial.
