Office 2007 Enterprise Will Not Install After An Aborted Install

You may have problems installing Office 2007 after a failed install.

If the installation of the Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise software is interrupted while in progress, you may find that you are unable to properly install the software afterward. Microsoft provides a utility program that allows you to remove the traces of the failed installation to enable you to successfully install the software.

Background

When you install software to your PC, files are copied to your computer, system registry entries are added or changed, and sometimes important system files are affected. If a software installation is aborted halfway through--for example, by a sudden loss of power to your PC--it can leave files in an inconsistent state and with your software incorrectly installed.

Solution

Microsoft provides a free Fix It utility online for every version of Office, which acts as a removal tool for an incomplete install of the software (see Resources). Download and run this tool and you should then be able to install Office 2007 from scratch.

Alternative

If the Windows System Restore functionality is enabled on your computer, you could alternatively use this utility. Restoring your system to a date before the failed installation may allow you to install Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise successfully.
