Every baby should have a pretty comforter, and it's up to Mommy or Daddy to find one that's going to make baby warm. There's a large selection of baby comforters to be found in the stores and online, but if you have something special in mind, you may be unsuccessful in your search for that one-of-a-kind baby comforter. That's when it's time to get busy and create your own. A baby comforter is not difficult to make. In fact, sewing a baby comforter is one of the easiest things you'll ever do. It's also fun to design. If you'd like to make a baby comforter, use the step-by-step guide below to help you with your project.
Instructions
1. Cut two pieces of fabric, each one 36-by-36 inches wide.
2. Lay one piece of fabric on the table, with the right side of the fabric facing up.
3. Lay the second piece of fabric on top of the first piece of fabric, right side facing down.
4. Take the end of the lace ruffle and sandwich it between the two pieces of fabric, aligning the unruffled edge of the ruffle with the edge of the two fabric pieces. Pin in place. Continue to pin the ruffle in between the two pieces of fabric, going around the entire comforter. Cut the ruffle when one end of the ruffle meets the other end of the ruffle.
5. On the wrong side of the fabric, stitch ¼-inch from the edge and around the comforter, making sure to pull out the pins before you reach each one with your sewing machine needle. Stop 18 inches before you reach your first stitch. Backstitch over your last couple of stitches to reinforce stitches.
6. Turn the comforter to be right side out through the 18-inch opening.
7. Thread the sewing needle and stitch the opening in the comforter closed, using very small stitches. Knot the thread on the last stitch.
8. Iron baby comforter on a low setting to flatten seamed edges.
