Use Drywall Compound For Texture Techniques

Use Drywall Compound for Texture Techniques

Wall texture can be created by applying a coat of drywall compound over the entire wall. The compound can be applied directly after hanging the drywall, eliminating the need to achieve a pristine finish over the seams between sheets. Alternatively, it can be applied over lathe and plaster walls, wallpaper or paint. You can cover over a myriad of imperfections with this method, or simply use it as a decorative element. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Apply a coat of primer to the walls to be textured, and allow it to dry fully.

2. Load the sprayer with the texturing compound, and hold the nozzle 2 to 3 feet from the wall.

3. Apply an even coat of compound in a steady stream to the entire wall to create a texture that resembles an orange peel.

4. Wait ten minutes. Run the edge of a trowel down the surface of the wall lightly to create a knock-down texture, which is basically a less raised version of the orange peel style.

5. Apply the compound with a short-nap paint roller to create roller texture, then wait ten minutes and run the trowel down the wall to create a knock-down version.

6. Apply compound to the wall with a small hand trowel for a more irregular look. Swipe the compound on the wall in a long, fluid movement, then go back over it at random with shorter, irregular swipes.
