Wire An Amp Kit

A vehicle owner who wishes to upgrade his car stereo system with either an aftermarket amplifier or powered subwoofer will need to establish the signal and power connections before doing so. The amp wiring kit allows you to establish an independent power source for the aftermarket component as well as a direct signal connection with the vehicle's head unit. You can choose to have the amp wiring kit installed by a professional car audio technician, or you can save time and the cost of labor by doing it yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Raise the vehicle's hood and loosen the two bolts that hold each of the battery cables to the battery with a wrench or pair of pliers. Lift the negative battery cable clamp from the battery terminal and set it aside.

2. Remove the positive battery cable clamp from the positive battery terminal. Place the ring terminal from the amplifier wiring kit onto the positive battery terminal post. Replace the positive battery cable clamp onto the battery terminal on top of the ring terminal. Tighten the bolts on the positive battery cable clamp with the wrench or a pair of pliers.

3. Remove the fuse from the ring terminal's fuse holder. Plug the amplifier wiring kit's power supply cable into the ring terminal. Feed the power supply cable through the vehicle's firewall and into the passenger cabin. Look for a path already established in the firewall or create one yourself using a drill. Place a rubber grommet into the new hole to protect the power supply cable. Move to the inside of the vehicle.

4. Remove the vehicle's factory stereo deck following the instructions in the vehicle repair manual. Disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the outlets on the backside of the factory unit. Plug the stereo wiring connectors into the wiring harness adapter.

5. Plug the wiring harness adapter lead connectors into the corresponding outlets on the back of the stock stereo receiver. Plug the patch cables into the wiring harness adapter leads. See the wiring harness adapter manual for precise connection locations.

6. Feed the patch cables through the back of the vehicle's stereo mounting dock and down to the floor of the vehicle on the passenger side. Replace the factory stereo deck into the dashboard stereo mount. Consult the repair manual for installation procedures for your specific vehicle.

7. Run the patch cables along the passenger side of the vehicle to the location of the amplifier. Route the power supply cable from the driver side foot-well to the location of the amplifier. Keep the power supply cable and the patch cables separate to avoid signal interference.
