Removing Nail Polish From Wood Funiture

Carefully scrape off nail polish spills from furniture using a plastic putty knife.

Because wood surfaces are porous, any liquid left on the surface will seep into the wood and creating discoloration. If the wood is finished with stain or polyurethane, the seepage will be diminished, but the stain will still exist. Removing the nail polish, as well as the stain, is best done using a plastic scraper, some denatured alcohol and fine grade steel wool. Applying a wood finish product to the area will help tie it in with the surrounding furniture color. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Dab off any wet nail polish from the surface of the wood furniture with a clean rag, ensuring that the polish is not spread onto new areas of the furniture. Hold the edge of a plastic putty knife or scraper against the furniture surface, and carefully scrape all dried nail polish from the wood.

2. Pour a small amount of denatured alcohol onto a clean cloth. Rub the alcohol in a circular motion on the stain on the furniture surface to remove as much of the nail polish as possible. If any stain still exists, use fine grade steel wool to rub over the stain area until all remnants are removed.

3. Apply a layer of wood finish (stain, polyurethane) to the repaired area with a small brush or cotton swab, to tie it in with the furniture's surrounding area.
