Plans for a full-sized bunk bed can be scaled down by a factor of four to accommodate your 18-inch dolls.
If you or your child is a fan of larger collectible dolls, you are likely familiar with the many accessories that are available to customize their respective appearances. In addition to the many miniaturized sets of clothing, there are also props and furniture that are commercially available. However, you don't need to feel limited by these prefabricated items. If you want to build an accessory such as a bunk bed on which you can lay your dolls, it is as simple as following the building plans for a full-size bunk bed and scaling down the measurements of your raw materials.
Instructions
1. Stand two of your 1/2-by-1 1/2-inch lengths of wood and two of your 18-inch lengths of wood up on their sides and arrange them in a rectangular formation, screwing them together at the corners. This will serve as the box that will form the frame of one of your beds.
2. Repeat Step 1 with your other two lengths of 1/2-by-1 1/2-inch and 18-inch wood to form the second box.
3. Measure and cut a section of plywood that will cover the bottom of each box. Attach them to the bottom of the boxes with finishing nails around the entire frame.
4. Mark off your lengths of 1/2-by-1-inch wood at points that are 2 1/4 inches and 18 inches from each of their bottom edges. These will serve as the support posts for the beds.
5. Attach the boxes to the support posts with screws, making the bottom edge of the top box square with the marks you made at the 18-inch points on each of the posts, and the bottom edge of the bottom box square with the marks you made at the 2 1/4-inch points on each of the posts. Your structure should now stand on its own.
6. Place hand towels into the boxes to serve as bedding for your dolls.
7. Place a doll in each bed to ensure that the structure can support its weight. If the bottoms of the boxes sag or warp out of place, reinforce them by measuring, cutting and attaching a second sheet of plywood to each box.
