Turn A Kitchen Cabinet Into A Vanity

Converted kitchen cabinets look good in the bathroom.

Many kitchen cabinets can be adjusted to fit a bathroom vanity. A few simple adjustments can create the storage space you need in your bathroom. Homeowners with do-it-yourself skills can turn a kitchen cabinet into a bathroom vanity by trimming the cabinet and installing a sink and vanity countertop. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the kitchen cabinet with a measuring tape. Most bathroom vanities are approximately 33 inches high and at least 18 inches deep from front to back.

2. Remove the drawers and doors from the kitchen cabinet. Use a screwdriver to remove the doors.

3. Adjust the height of the kitchen cabinet so that it is within the 31- to 35-inch range. Remove the excess height by trimming the bottom of the cabinet with a circular saw.

4. Put the cabinet into place. If the cabinet has a back, it may be necessary to remove the back portion of the cabinet to accommodate the sink's plumbing. Use a hammer and pry bar to remove the back panel on the kitchen cabinet if it has one.

5. Install the countertop and sink, following the manufacturer's directions. If the cabinet has drawers that obstruct the sink, you may need to remove the drawer fronts and use wood glue to glue the fronts into place on the cabinet. Use a nail gun and finish nails to nail the drawer fronts into place.
