Hair 10 inches or longer can be cut in a ponytail and donated to Locks of Love charity.
Locks of Love is a charity that collects donations of human hair to be made into high-quality natural hair wigs for children suffering from hair loss. There are ongoing Locks of Love events in Michigan as well as special one-day events. Some salons, for example, plan and advertise days when they accept donations from customers in exchange for free haircuts or other services, while others hold events daily, or regularly throughout the year.
Special Events
Special events to benefit the charity are occasionally organized by salons in Michigan. For example, three Michigan hair salons --- Leslee's Hair Salon in Grand Blanc, Nouvag Beauty Salon in Flint and SuperCuts in Fenton --- each held a Locks of Love event in June 2010, in which customers who donated their hair received a free haircut from a salon stylist. Any special event that benefits the charity will include the official Locks of Love logo.

Lockworx salon in Lansing regularly books services for individuals who want to donate their hair through the Locks of Love charity. Lockworx offers a free haircut to anyone donating 10 inches or more of their hair to the charity.

Ongoing: Half-Price Haircut
Serendipity Salon in Ann Arbor charges half the regular price of your haircut if you wish to donate 10 inches or more of hair to Locks of Love charity. Serendipity cuts the hair for you, in a ponytail or braid. You then arrange through LocksofLove.org to mail it to the charity.

Salon Decadence in Saginaw arranges for hair to be sent to Locks of Love from customers who wish to donate it. The salon sends the customer the confirmation the hair was made into a wig for a child suffering from cancer or other disease. About a month after the donation, the salon sends the customer a thank you and confirmation from the charity.
