Install Resin Crown Molding

Resin crown molding is a flexible composite molding. The product is useful when installing molding on arches, rounded walls or corners in a home. Unlike wood, the resin molding will not crack or break when bent. The resin molding can be painted or even stained, if it's made in a finish that can be stained. Though the installation is similar to wood molding, adhesive is especially important to prevent the resin crown molding from separating from the wall. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the length of the area where the molding will be installed. Cut the resin molding to this measurement with a table saw.

2. Apply a thin layer of construction adhesive to the back of the resin molding. Spread out the adhesive with a putty knife for uniform coverage.

3. Place the molding on the wall using even pressure so it adheres well to the surface. Use a helper to nail the molding to the wall with a pneumatic nail gun.

4. Fill the nail holes with stainable wood filler. Allow the filler to dry, then sand the surface smooth.

5. Run painter's tape along the top and bottom edge of the molding to prevent the paint or stain from getting on the wall.

6. Use a rag to apply gel stain or a paintbrush to paint the molding. Apply a second coat after the first has dried.
