Use Old Tv Cases As Bathroom Vanities

Try repurposing an old TV case into a new bathroom vanity.

A booming trend in bathroom design is to make bathroom vanities out of unexpected pieces of furniture. Antique cabinets, repurposed dressers and even TV cases can be used to make a bold statement in a bathroom vanity. The beauty of using an existing piece of furniture is not only that it adds interest to the room; it is also simpler than custom-building a cabinet and countertop for the vanity. With some careful measurements and basic tools, you can convert an old TV case into a new bathroom vanity. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Lay a piece of butcher paper on a flat surface. Turn the top of your TV case upside down and trace the top onto the sheet of paper. Mark on your sheet where any case features such as drawers are located. Cut out your traced shape to use as the template for your installation cuts.

2. Position the template for your sink onto your sheet of butcher paper. This template is included with the purchase of new sinks. If you are using an old sink or have lost the template, measure around the lip of your sink and draw the shape onto a separate piece of paper. Cut out your sink's shape and position on the butcher paper TV case pattern as desired.

3. Trace the sink template onto the butcher paper at your desired location. Mark on your butcher paper where your faucets will be installed. Cut out your traced shapes from the butcher paper.

4. Position your template over the top of your TV case and tape it in place. Trace the inside of your sink with a marker. Be sure to write directly onto the top of the cabinet so you know where to make your cuts. Remove the template paper from the top of your case.

5. Cut out your holes for your sink and faucet using a jigsaw. Move slowly along your lines to avoid splitting your case. Sand around the inside edges of your cuts and drop your sink into place to test for fit. Make modifications as needed with a handsaw and sandpaper.

6. Attach your piping to the underside of your sink and make a notation on the back of your TV case for any cuts. Use a handsaw to create a hole for your piping to feed in through to the wall.

7. Add a bead of sealant to the underside of the sink. Install it in place in the top of your cabinet. Allow the sealant to dry completely.

8. Attach your TV case to the wall with a set of L-brackets. Drill one side of the bracket to the wall and then slide your TV case in place. Drill the other side of the bracket into the top of the cabinet. Cover your brackets with a decorative wood trim piece and nail into place on the top of the TV case.

9. Hook up your water supply lines to the wall to install your sink's plumbing.
