Paint Window Shades

You can get white fabric window blinds at just about any hardware or home improvement store. They are functional, but they do not add any class or style to a room. You can add a personalized touch to these otherwise sterile shades with some acrylic paint and some imagination. From tasteful stenciling to wild graphics for your teen's room, you can make your shade resemble any personality. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the window shade from the mounting brackets and roll it out on a table.

2. Wipe the surface of the shade clean with a moist rag and then dry it off with a towel. Starting with a clean surface promotes proper paint adhesion.

3. Tape your stencil onto the shade using blue painter's tape. If you are going to free-form a stencil, place painter's tape over the shade, creating a solid block of tape, and then slightly cut out your pattern with a razor knife. Be careful not to cut into the blind. Remove the tape to expose the pattern.

4. Paint the pattern onto the surface of the blind using acrylic paints and a paintbrush. Give the paint adequate time to dry before moving on.

5. Spray the painted surface with an acrylic matte hard-coat. You can purchase this in an aerosol paint can. Give the acrylic matte hard-coat finish time to dry and then peel off the tape and remove any stencils.

6. Reattach the shade to the window brackets.
