Use Twitter Without Going Through Twitter

Various applications can help you access Twitter without using the website

Generally, Twitter.com is where most people access Twitter, but reading on the website can produce a sensation of information overload and make it difficult to find the specific information for which you're looking. There are some ways to use Twitter without accessing Twitter.com.

Instructions

1. Sign up for Twitter feeds via email. TweetBeep can help you access your favorite Twitter feed without having to log on to Twitter or deal with sorting through a Twitter app. It is free to sign up. Premium accounts cost around $20 a month in fall 2010 and include up to 200 updates for your favorite feeds. (See References)

2. Check out Twistori for a feed on random tweets that contain certain keywords such as hate, love, think and believe. The feed is automatically updated and comes from random users. An interesting cross-section of the Twitter world, Twistori can be read anytime. (See References)

3. Sign up for TweetGrid, which does not require a Twitter account or signing in to catch up to nine feeds. It automatically finds and sorts whatever you are interested in reading about in real time. As newer tweets that are relevant to your search parameters are created, they automatically update in the grid. There is no need to refresh the page and no need to sort through dozens of messages you'd rather not read. (See References)

4. Read about @Anywhere from Twitter. This website is a Twitter development that allows you to receive feeds from any number of popular websites while you browse. For instance, you can follow the updates and information you'd like to see from your favorite journalist while browsing YouTube. Although still in development, it does not require you to use Twitter.com and can be applied to your own website through new applications. (See References)
