Chairs can provide versatile and comfortable seating in any decor style.
Furnishing a living area should be a matter of personal taste and preference above all. Although common sense dictates that you should choose seating that provides a comfortable place to relax and visit with friends and family, select pieces that help you create a room that appeals to you. If you are more into conversation than lounging, have a small space, or move often, consider chairs instead of couches and a loveseat to furnish your living room. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Determine what chair style fits your desires. Chairs, like couches and loveseats, come in both rounded, overstuffed shapes and more streamlined, angular styles. Select chairs that appeal to your design aesthetic and are scaled to the size of your space.
2. Plan the walking pattern for the room (how you will walk through and in the room) and the seating arrangement you desire. Using chairs, you will probably create one or more conversational arrangements where people can sit and visit or watch television in the room. You might place only two chairs together in an arrangement or you could place as many as four chairs together to simulate a coach or theater seating.
3. Take measurements of the room with the tape measure to determine how many chairs you have room for. Measure specific seating areas so you know how many inches or feet you have to accommodate the chairs you buy. If you need to seat more people, consider smaller-scale chairs.
4. Create the seating arrangements. Make an intimate conversation nook using three or four chairs with end tables and a coffee table in the center. Make a separate television or media area with at least two chairs where people can sit comfortably in chairs and watch television or play video games. Place a single overstuffed chair, an ottoman and a side table in a spot that can become a reading area. Place a lamp on the table.
