Spanish-Style Kitchen Decorating
One attractive and exciting way in which to decorate a kitchen is by giving it a warm, Spanish-style influence. To achieve a kitchen that is inspired by Spain, focus on vibrant colors and dramatic contrasts, combining a sense of light and earthiness. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Use natural materials, such as wood or stone or clay tiles for flooring. Paint walls in a strong and vibrant color, such as deep yellow, that will also infuse the kitchen with light. Apply a rough faux finish on the walls to give them a rugged look.
2. Choose a rustic dark wood for cabinets and kitchen furniture. Use deep green, dark blue or fiery red for accent colors in table linens, appliances, containers and other objects throughout the kitchen.
3. Incorporate wrought-iron details. Wrought iron is a very common feature in many traditional Spanish kitchens. Look for wrought-iron fixtures such knobs, light fittings, racks, hooks and handles.
4. Accessorize, Spanish-style. Hang fresh herbs on strings or grow herbs in pots on the windowsill. Set out decorative olive oil bottles. Place Spanish cookware such as cazuelas, or terracotta dishes, and paella pans on display. Use earthenware jars to hold cooking utensils. An arrangement of brightly colored bowls and plates also can add to the overall Spanish look of the kitchen.
5. Install ceramic tiles. Hand-painted tiles appear frequently in Spanish kitchens. For a more "Old World" Spanish ambiance, use mosaic tiles instead.
