Indian Casinos In California

Card games are a staple in California tribal casinos.

Indian gambling in California has transitioned from outpost bingo halls to destination casinos and resorts since the state's tribal governments signed gaming compacts with Gov. Gray Davis in 1999. A decade later, the state was home to the small Lucky 7 Casino in the extreme northwest corner, the Golden Acorn Casino in southern San Diego County and 56 other casinos in between. California tribal casinos house nearly 64,000 slot machines and are allowed to offer banked card games and poker.

Pechanga Resort & Casino

Pechanga Resort & Casino, in Riverside County about 65 miles northeast of San Diego International Airport, is the largest casino in the state. The 188,000-square-foot gaming floor contains more than 3,000 slot machines, 130 tables of banked games and a 54-table poker room. A 517-room luxury hotel features a swimming pool and health club. The property includes eight restaurants, a fast-food court and four entertainment venues as well as the 7,219-yard Journey at Pechanga championship golf course.

Cache Creek Casino Resort

Cache Creek Casino Resort, about 40 miles west of Sacramento International Airport and 100 miles north of San Francisco International Airport, is the largest casino in Northern California. The Yocha-De-He Wintun Nation opened the casino in 1985 as a bingo hall. The current facility, which opened in 2004, features 2,400 slot machines, 122 gaming tables, a 200-room hotel, nine restaurants, a nightclub, a convention center and a health spa. The property includes the 7,300-yard Yocha-De-He championship golf course. The tribe in October 2009 dropped plans for a property expansion, citing the poor economic climate.
