Located in Mecklenburg County, on the edge of Charlotte, the town of Mint Hill, North Carolina, is a city full of tradition and history. As of 2011, the town of Mint Hill is the home of just over 21,000 residents. Students in Mint Hill attend Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the county's school system.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS)
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is a system of schools located in the Charlotte, North Carolina, region, which is made up of 178 schools that cater to more than 130,000 students, ranging from kindergartners to 12th graders. CMS is one of the area's largest employers, with nearly 19,000 teachers, administrators and school staffers. The school system maintains close ties with local businesses and organizations since its goal is to provide its students with the best possible opportunities in life, both academically and professionally. Many local businesses offer mentorships to CMS students.
Elementary Schools
Bain Elementary, Clear Creek Elementary and Lebanon Road Elementary are the three elementary schools in Mint Hill, all of which house students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Bain Elementary and Clear Creek Elementary date back over a hundred years and have deep connections with the community in the form of active PTAs and volunteer programs.
Middle Schools
There are only two middle schools in Mint Hill--Mint Hill Middle School and North East Middle School. Both schools teach sixth grade to eighth grade. With 87.2 percent of its students testing at or above grade level in educational progress, Mint Hill Middle School has been recognized as a National School to Watch For since 2008. North East Middle School was originally an all-black school, but it currently educates students with a diverse mix of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
High Schools
The high schools in Mint Hill teach students in grades nine through 12. Founded in 1950, East Mecklenburg is Mint Hill's oldest high school, and with one of the lowest teacher turnover rates in CMS, it is also one of the most consistent and reliable. The most recent high school in Mint Hill is Rocky River High School, founded in 2009. Two other high schools are located in Mint Hill: Butler High School and Independence High School. Independence High School was named the most improved high school in North Carolina by "Business Week" and received a "Silver Medal" from "News & World Reports: America's Best High Schools" list.
