Start A Teen Group

After-school sports clubs are very popular.

Many high schools offer their students a variety of extracurricular activities such as sports, drama, debate and art. In the case of budget cuts, though, the options may seem slim. If this is the case, you may decide you want to start a teen group or club within the school. Your group can be focused on a common interest, such as dance, or on a philanthropic cause.

Instructions

1. Talk to a teacher, secretary or principal. Ask her about the appropriate steps you'll need to take in order to start an official school group.

2. Recruit several like-minded individuals to help with the group's execution and planning. Divide the responsibilities of organizing the group among several leaders.

3. Create a presentation and submit it to the local school board. If your group needs external funding, it likely requires approval from school administrators or the school board. In your presentation, discuss the monetary and time commitment necessary on behalf of school officials, and talk about the benefits to the group's members.

4. Recruit members by posting flyers around the school and talking to friends about joining. Schedule an orientation meeting for the purpose of answering questions about the group and bringing in new members.

5. Make members sign an official form to join the group. Members should be expected to abide by any rules of the group, such as an attendance policy.
