A number of schools serve the East Greenbush community.

East Greenbush is located in the northern part of New York State, in Rensselaer County; six miles south from the capital city of Albany, with a population of just over 16,000. The East Greenbush Central School District enrolls approximately 5,000 students and employs close to 600 full and part-time teachers, assistants and administrators. An elementary school, middle school and high school are all located in East Greenbush. One private Catholic parochial school is also available as an alternative for students.

The school district offers a school-wide enrichment program (ADEPT) for exceptionally gifted students as well as a comprehensive special education program for handicapped students between the ages of 3 and 21. In addition, adult continuing education and community education programs attract well over 2,000 residents annually.

Genet Elementary School

The school district oversees five elementary schools, but only Genet Elementary is located in East Greenbush. Located on Englewood Avenue, Genet enrolls students from kindergarten through grade five and features a library, music instruction and an on-site psychologist and social worker. Students at this school are invited to participate in food drives, Halloween parades and a holiday concert throughout the year. Genet Elementary enrolls approximately 400 students, with a 10 to 1 student to teacher ratio.

Goff Middle School

Howard L. Goff Middle School is located on Gilligan Road and serves students from grades six through eight, with a total enrollment of over 1,100 students. French, German and Spanish are all offered to students, as well a wide range of extracurricular activities, including track, baseball, line dancing and volleyball. An environment program which includes a garden club students can join, is also available, as well as a full theater, music and art program.

Columbia High School

Columbia High School, on Luther Road, enrolls over 1,400 students and offers pupils merit scholarships, vocational programs, interscholastic sports and club activities. In addition, students have the opportunity to earn credits at several nearby colleges, including The University at Albany and The College of St. Rose, both within a 15-minute drive. Clubs on campus include the Gay Straight Alliance, German Club, Orchestra and Ski Club. Ping pong and bible clubs are also offered after school hours. Career & technical education and driver education are also some of the elective classes students can take at Columbia. Operation Graduation is a program where students are given an alternative to dropping out of school. The program offers a reduced 3 1/2-hour school day with one-on-one attention, to increase the probability of graduating. As of January 2011, the program has 20 enrolled students.

Private School

Holy Spirit School is the only private school within East Greenbush. The parochial school serves families that want their children to have a Catholic education, from kindergarten through eighth grade, combining both the elementary and middle schools. Extracurricular activities at Holy Spirit include oil painting, yearbook, drama and garden club. Students are given the opportunity to take a number of physical activities, including track, tennis, soccer and lacrosse. The school is overseen by the Church of the Holy Spirit, with enrollment first given to students whose families are members of the parish.
