Make A Small Sky Lantern With A Small Candle

Many brides and grooms look for alternatives to throwing rice at their weddings. A well-planned wedding reflects the couple's personalities; why should what the guests use to send the newlyweds off be different? Sky lanterns, also known as paper lanterns, are delicate lanterns that float like hot air balloons, and they can create a memorable alternative to throwing rice or blowing bubbles at a wedding reception. Make small sky lanterns at home to use with a small candle for guests to release together at an evening wedding or reception.

Instructions

1. Spray the tissue paper and hoop with flame-retardant spray until they're completely covered. Allow them to dry completely. This will protect them from the candle flame.

2. Measure a 12-by-24-inch rectangle on your tissue paper. Cut it out. Fold the rectangle in half to create a folded square that measures 12 inches on each side.

3. Apply a narrow strip of glue on the left side of the top of the square from the fold to the bottom edge. Curl the left edge of the paper downward to adhere it to the same edge of the layer beneath. This will create a rounded side on your lantern. Do not press it flat. Repeat this process for the other side of your lantern.

4. Glue the ends of two pieces of florist wire to the outside of the metal tea-light holder on opposite sides using craft glue. Allow the glue to dry completely, according to the directions on the glue packaging.

5. Twist both pieces of florist wire all the way around the tea light holder and leave the ends sticking out in opposite directions.

6. Glue the ends of the florist wire to the wooden hoop. The candle should be suspended in the center of the hoop.

7. Apply a thin layer of glue to the bottom edge of the tissue paper and press it against the outside of the wooden hoop. Allow the glue to dry completely before lighting your sky lantern.
