Where there's a few black ants there's probably an entire anthill.
Black ants are an important part of the food chain as they assist in ridding forests of decaying wood, eat animal carcasses and clean up crumbs and dropped food. As helpful as they are outdoors, an infestation of ants in your home and yard quickly turns ants into a nuisance. The presence of a few little black ants or carpenter ants is fine, but left unattended, these little critters can get into your home and cause damage. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Get Rid of Ants in Your Home
1. Set your pet's food bowls inside disposable aluminum pans. Fill the pans with 1/2 inch of water. Black ants will not cross over the water to get to the food, depriving them of an attractive food source.
2. Mop floors regularly with vinegar solution to repel ants.
Combine 1/2 bucket of white vinegar with 1/2 bucket of water. Use the solution to wash your floors, countertops, tables, inside cabinets and any other hard surface where you have spotted ants. Do not rinse the vinegar solution off; the smell of the vinegar odor will repel black ants.
3. Place a liberal amount of flour in the backs of your cabinets, along the edges of baseboards and across doorway thresholds to deter black ants from those areas.
4. Wipe up food spills and stains promptly so they don't attract black ants into your home. Keep open food packages in airtight containers.
Get Rid of Ants In Your Yard
5. Rid your yard of any piles of old wood or other unused materials that is attractive to black ants. Use a wheelbarrow to move heavy items. Place items in storage bins and airtight containers in your garage.
6. Clean up and discard fallen fruit from fruit trees and unused vegetables from vegetable gardens. Both are an attractive food source for black ants.
7. Follow and read directions when using a caulk applicator.
Examine the foundation of your house and garage for small crevices and cracks. Black ants will use these as points of entry into the home. Seal these cracks and crevices off with caulk, using the directions found on the caulk applicator.
8. Fill anthills with cornmeal, then pour more cornmeal around the perimeter of the anthills. The cornmeal swells inside the black ant's stomach, and then the ant dies.
9. Spoon jelly onto the ground in areas where you have spotted black ants but are unable to find any anthills. Follow ants back to the nest once they've gotten some jelly to find another area of ant infestation.
10. A spray bottle helps you spray directly at your target.
Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar. Spray the vinegar where you've seen black ants walking. This will remove the scent trail the ants have left and keep them from returning to a food source.
