Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Cabinet Refinishing

1. Remove the cabinet doors and hinges from the cabinetry with a screwdriver.

2. Clean the cabinetry and doors with a rag and mineral spirits. The mineral spirits will remove dirt, grease and oil from the cabinetry and doors.

3. Sand the cabinets and doors with a sanding block and sandpaper. Use low grit sandpaper like #60 grit for the initial sanding. Sand the cabinetry in three passes, ending with #180 grit sandpaper. When you have finished sanding, the varnish should be completely removed from the cabinets. The cabinets should also be smooth to the touch and void of obvious sanding marks. Use a tack cloth to remove the dust from the cabinetry.

4. Stain the cabinetry and doors per manufacturer directions for the wood stain. Use a soft staining pad and wood stain. Allow the stain to dry overnight before applying polyurethane.

5. Use a paintbrush to apply polyurethane to the cabinetry and doors. Apply three coats of polyurethane to the cabinets. Lightly sand each of the first two coats after they have dried completely. Remove all of the dust before applying the next coat of polyurethane. Wait for the last coat of polyurethane to dry for several days before reinstalling the cabinet doors for use.

Kitchen Remodeling

6. Paint the walls with a paint roller and latex paint. Repainting a kitchen is the fastest way to change the look of the room. Paint is also inexpensive and most homeowners can do it themselves.

7. Change the lighting in the room. By changing outdated fixtures in your kitchen, you will make a big impact with small changes. Most light fixtures can be changed by homeowners. Those who are unsure about the task, or are changing the location of their lighting should hire an electrician.

8. Re-think the flooring. Installing tile or wood flooring in your kitchen will update your kitchen and protect your home from potential water damage.
