Make My Queensized Bed Work In A Small Bedroom

Make a small space work with a larger bed.

Having a small bedroom can be a decorating challenge, but it becomes even more frustrating when you add a large bed. On the bright side, there are ways to make a room feel larger even with a prominent piece of furniture involved. Think about your room as sleep haven instead of an all-purpose room, and decorate it with that intention. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Add color. Paint the walls of your room using a light, bright shade of paint. Accent only one wall to add the illusion of depth by painting the wall your bed is up against. If you choose to use wallpaper instead, go with vertical stripes to make the room look bigger by drawing attention upward.

2. Place your bed up against the center wall in the middle of the room so it creates space on either side of the bed. If you have a bed with a headboard and a foot board, leave the foot board off to create more space.

3. Use colorful bedding and throw pillows to bring attention to your bed. Since it is the focal point of a small room, accent it using bright colors or funky patterns to draw the eyes toward it. A canopy is a one idea for a small bedroom since it makes use of ceiling space and provides added upward focus for the eyes.

4. Minimize clutter and large furniture by storing items under the bed and in closets. Too much furniture can cramp your bedroom and make it look even smaller. Buy containers to slide under the bed for storage, and take advantage of other storage spaces.

5. Skip lots of wall art. Choose one neat piece, or hang a mirror instead. Too much wall decor brings the walls in and makes the room look smaller. A mirror can provide an illusion of more space, or one pretty framed piece hanging above the bed provides a nice touch of decor without being too busy.
