Spanish Style Decorating

Whether you want to celebrate your heritage or simply add colorful and classic accents to your home, you may want to include Spanish decorative accents into your space. The Spanish style of decorating encompasses items that are for individuals with a number of tastes, so you can decorate Spanish style whether you want an understated or eye-catching look for your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Paint the accent wall in the room a deep red color, or use a rusty-colored orange for the wall and paint any paneling red. Or, use a gold paint for the paneling or remaining walls if the main wall is red or orange.

2. Hang wrought iron accents on the wall, such as a set of sconces or a wall hanging that displays your family monogram. The dark color of the wrought iron will help to bring more attention to the bold but sophisticated wall color.

3. Install wrought iron curtain rods over the windows, and add gold curtains to the rods. The metallic shade contrasts beautifully against the wrought iron, and makes the orange or red wall color seem richer and more appealing.

4. Add an area rug to the room. A tapestry-style rug that includes colors like yellow/gold, orange, red, and deep brown will help to bring the room decor together. It is also a nod to the Italian Renaissance period, as many Spanish decorative items were inspired by this time period. A solid color area rug in burnt orange or burgundy will complement the room nicely as well.

5. Bring the sofa and chairs into the room; yellow or chocolate brown sofas are best -- especially those with wooden accents. A burnt orange chair with dark wood legs or arms will look great in the corner, and will help to pick up the color of the area rug.

6. Purchase a wooden coffee table, or add a bronze covering to the table. Bring small tables with bronze accents into the room as well to be placed on either end of the sofa.

7. Purchase glass bottles filled with foods like olives or peppers to represent the love for cooking and food that is evident in traditional Spanish decorating. Use the bottles as decoration for the tables in the room. Or, decorate the tables with bronze vases or bowls to complete your Spanish-themed decor.
