The Ford Expedition comes standard with a CD head unit, six-inch by eight-inch speakers and a rear woofer. If you wish to upgrade the speakers or sound starts to diminish in crispness, there are several aftermarket replacement options for your Expedition.
Replacement Speakers
Regardless of your budget, there are many different six-inch by eight-inch replacement speakers of varying sound quality to fit your price range. You may also choose to replace these speakers with six-inch by nine-inch models, as these speakers are designed to fit smaller outlets. Modern brand-name automotive speakers come available in woven-glass fiber, polypropylene and rubber designs, whereas many stock speakers are made of paper and break easily.
Amplifier
If you are replacing your factory speakers because the sound has diminished in quality, you have likely blown a connection to the speakers. With factory speakers, this can easily happen if the speakers are pushed too hard. To avoid this problem with the replacement speakers, you can choose to install an additional amplifier to power each of the speakers. Check the aftermarket speakers for wattage recommendations and plan the amplifier setup accordingly.
Installation
If you choose to install the replacement speakers in your Ford Expedition yourself, consult the manual of the new products for recommended settings. While this process is quite involved, you should have no trouble unscrewing the factory speakers once the door panels have been removed. Most speaker dealers will provide installation for a labor fee if necessary.
