Origami designs may take a few tries to perfect.
Origami SpongeBob and Patrick are both basically just simple geometric shapes: a star and a box. Details like eyes and clothes are easy to color on at the end of the paper folding. Remember that you cannot cut the paper; that is an entirely different hobby called kirigami, so cutting in origami is considered cheating.
Instructions
SpongeBob
1. Fold the six inch by six inch paper along each diagonal line and then unfold the piece.
2. Fold the paper along the north, east, south and west lines and then unfold. The paper should now be divided into eight equal triangular sections.
3. Raise the piece using the center of the folded lines as the peak. Place the risen paper on its side and collapse into a smaller 3-D square, completing the basic shape for SpongeBob.
4. Color the paper square to look more like SpongeBob by using the pencil crayons. The body of SpongeBob is usually shown as a porous yellow and his trademark pants are brown. SpongeBob usually wears a white dress shirt and red tie as well as a black belt and pair of shoes.
Patrick
5. Fold the six inch by six inch origami paper along the north, south, east and west lines and unfold the paper.
6. Fold the sheet's corners into the center of the paper, making a smaller paper square.
7. Fold two of the square's parallel corner points into the center of both sides, forming a kite shape. Flip over the piece of paper.
8. Fold the top point of the kite shape into the center of the paper. Fold the result in half to yield one point of a five-point star shape. Repeat the above steps four more times and interlock by the inserting the corner edge into the corner fold of the joining piece into a five-point star resembling the character Patrick Star from the SpongeBob SquarePants series.
9. Color the result using the pencil crayons to resemble the character more accurately. Patrick is often shown wearing lime green shorts, and his body is pink.
