Kill Ants In A Vegetable Garden

Kill the ants in your vegetable garden safely.

Gardening can be difficult, and rewarding, work. The hours and money put into your garden can easily be carried away by a very common and pesky invader: ants. One of the most effective ways to kill ants on your lawn and in your home is to utilize pesticides, but these chemicals are not recommended for use on vegetables gardens that will yield crops to ingest. There are ways to effectively kill ants in your garden and keep your garden, and family, safe from unwanted chemicals. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Tobacco and Baby Powder

1. Boil 5 cups of water in a small pot.

2. Pour the boiling water into a small bowl and place several ounces of chewing tobacco into the bowl. Allow the bowl to sit for 12 hours.

3. Run the tobacco water through a strainer. Keep the liquid and throw away the wet tobacco.

4. With gloved hands, carefully pour the tobacco water directly into the ant hill and onto any ants that you see outside the hill and in your garden.

5. Pour baby powder directly onto other ants you see in your garden and onto the ant's trail. The powder will kill these remaining ants as well.

Borax and Sugar

6. Mix 1 tablespoon of Borax, which can be purchased at your local grocery store, and 1 cup of sugar. Add a few drops of water to the mixture until a paste is created.

7. With a spoon, place several dollops of the paste near the ant hill.

8. Scatter more dollops of the paste around the garden as well. The ants will be attracted to the sugar and will take the paste back to the nest, and the queen. The queen will ingest the Borax and die, which will lead to the death of the entire colony.
