What Are The Uses Of Twitter

Tweets can be checked on your cell phone or home computer.

As time and technology marches forward, it is becoming harder and harder to keep a low profile. With the creation of cell phones, MySpace, Facebook and now Twitter, individuals can stay connected to the world around them 24 hours a day, and be contacted in a moments notice from anywhere on the planet. Twitter is another form of social networking, keeping people more connected than ever before.

Constant Connection

Those who use Twitter -- and send tweets to other Twitter users -- can stay connected to friends and family in real time, either from home or from their cell phone. For example, if you have just seen the latest Adam Sandler movie and were less than pleased, you can send an instant tweet to your followers warning them to stay away. Similar to text messaging, tweets have a character limitation, so messages have to be brief or spread out over multiple tweets. The character limitation for Twitter is 140 characters per tweet. However, one tweet can be sent to all of your followers at once. You must have a Twitter account to send and receive tweets. Simply visit the Twitter website and follow the onscreen directions to activate an account.

Business

Businesses small and large can benefit from Twitter, informing their followers of upcoming promotions, sales, or releases. Businesses with websites can utilize Twitter to create traffic to their site, blog, or company page. Businesses can also tweet information about specific products, brands, or ideas they have to the vast Twitter audience, and receive feedback in real time. Companies can also promote their brand name -- be it old or new -- to fellow Twitter users.

Gathering Information

Those with Twitter accounts are under no obligation to tweet at all hours, or even at all. However, users can become followers of another persons Twitter account, allowing them to gather information or insight from that user. For example, if your friend in China has a Twitter account that you follow, and you have a vast interest in Chinese culture, she can send you tweets about modern living, current events, and everything in between. You can also follow celebrities, politicians, news programming, and more, keeping you up to date on all that matters within your life.

Accessibility

Although Twitter is based in San Francisco, it is used world wide. Twitter users have the ability to send tweets in various languages, including French, Italian, Japanese, German, Spanish and English. In short, Twitter can be used to connect people from around the world. Twitter allows you to befriend people from anywhere in the world who share common interests, or stay in contact with friends who have moved halfway across the globe. Twitter, as of 2011, is a free service to sign up for, allowing those in any budget range to partake. However, users should be warned that sending tweets from a cell phone may cost depending on your service provider. You must have a computer or cell phone to use the Twitter application.
