Sofa Covers In Southwestern Decor

Light tan slipcovers work well in a Southwestern-style living room.

The rich colors of the sunset and landscape, along with cowboy-inspired images and Mexican themes, are the cornerstones of Southwestern decor. If you're changing the premise of a room that includes a couch, loveseat, or chair, Southwestern slipcovers will display the right colors, textures and styles to lend decorative-specific authenticity to the space. Does this Spark an idea?

Colors

Deep shades of blue, such as cobalt and royal blue, make a regal and sophisticated Southwestern-style slipcovers. Shades on the warm side of the color wheel--including rust orange, dusty pink, and cranberry red--showcase Southwestern style and add a burst of color to the room. For more noticeable and vivid color, a slipcover in a near-neon shade of orange or lemon yellow will help to complement the subdued colors in the room, such as beige and tan. If you want to keep the room neutral, earthy tones such as cocoa brown or charcoal gray are ideal choices for slipcovers.

Fabrics

Heavy fabrics such as tweed and quality cotton will make a Southwestern slipcover more authentic and visually appealing. Suede slipcovers, or covers in faux animal hide, are fitting for a room with a Southwestern theme. Slipcovers that feature more than one material are impressive as well. For instance, a tweed slipcover with leather strips that cover the arms of the chair helps to incorporate more than one fabric into the room, and easily gives life to an old chair that you don't want to get rid of.

Patterns

Native American or Mexican patterns that feature diamond shapes and stripes in a modest shade--such as black, gray or dark brown--are appropriate for a Southwestern sofa or chair slipcover. Stripes of varying widths in colors such as yellow, orange, red, deep blue and bright green make an attractive theme-specific slipcover as well. You can also find slipcovers with images of cacti, cowboy boots, or sombreros to make the loveseat, couch, or chair you're covering even more noticeable--the vivid patterns can make the furniture piece the feature of the room.

Additional Accents

Accents that will make your Southwestern slipcover stand out--including fringes in leather or suede, or a border made of mini Western stars--add more texture to the furniture. Choosing a slipcover with neutral-colored fringes in dark or medium brown or black will complement the other colors in the Southwestern-themed room, such as deep shades of red, rust orange and bright turquoise. You can also have the slipcover professionally designed to include your family name or initial--or a Southwestern symbol such as a cowboy hat or cactus--so the symbol shows in the center or along the bottom of the slipcover.
