Turtle Bay is surrounded by New York's attractions and a few miles from several hostels.
Turtle Bay is located just under the Upper East Side in Manhattan, New York. It runs north from 43rd to 53rd Street and east from Lexington Avenue to the East river. While once a bay, it is now home to the United Nations. Whether walking or taking the subway, New York City is easily accessible from Turtle Bay. Central Park, the Theater and Fashion district are all within an easy walk. Greenwich Village, SoHo and the East Village are a short subway or taxi ride away. Turtle Bay has several hostels less than four miles away. Because New York never sleeps, all the listed hostels have no curfew.
Vanderbilt YMCA
The Vanderbilt YMCA is in Midtown Manhattan, about half a mile from turtle Bay. There are three subway lines within a few blocks that will take you to lower Manhattan; Wall street; the free Staten Island Ferry, where you can get a great view of the Statue of Liberty; and to the Bronx for a Yankee's game. Within walking distance are Central Station, Radio City Music Hall and The Rockefeller Center. There is no kitchen at the hostel, but there are many restaurants just out the door, including many Japanese restaurants, since this is the Japanese area of the city. The hostel offers single, double, triple and six-bed rooms. Guests can use the gym and pool at the YMCA.
Big Apple Hostel
The Big Apple Hostel, located in Midtown Manhattan, is just over a mile from Turtle Bay. There are many subway lines, as well as Grand central Station, within easy walking distance. Jumping one of the many trains can take you anywhere in the city. Central Park, the Theater District, Times Square, The Guggenheim and the Museum of Modern Art are within walking distance. The Iridium Jazz Club, just up the street, towards the park, has live Jazz and a tapas menu. The hostel offers dormitory, single and double rooms as well as use of the kitchen, TV room and outdoor patio with a barbecue.
American Dream Hostel
The American Dream Hostel is in Gramercy Park, in Midtown, just two miles from Turtle Bay. Gramercy is just north of The East Village and within easy walking distance to SoHo and Greenwich Village. It is within walking distance to four subway lines that will take you uptown and downtown. Although the hostel has a kitchen, The East Village and, a little further south, Little Italy and China Town have a huge selection of restaurants as well as cafes and night spots. Single, double and dorm rooms are available. Guests can hang out in the TV room.
Chelsea International Hostel
The Chelsea Hostel, in Chelsea, just above Greenwich Village, is about three miles from Turtle Bay. Its location and proximity to several subway lines offers easy access to nearby Greenwich Village and Soho as well as Central Park, The Empire State, Broadway and the Museum of Natural History. Leaving the hostel in any direction will offer many choices in dining, cafes and nightlife. Single and double rooms are available. Common areas include the TV room and kitchen. A free breakfast and free Wi-Fi are provided.
