Things to Make for a Big Sister for a Baby Shower
Expecting a new arrival is exciting for every member of the family, but as the big day draws near, older siblings may begin to feel a little anxious about the new arrival. Including the big sister in as many events as you can makes her feel like an important part of the family--and highlights how important she will be to her new brother or sister. Making some "big sister" themed items for the baby shower is a great way to include the big sister in the celebrations. Does this Spark an idea?
"Big Sister" T-shirt
Use iron on transfers or fabric markers to create an "I am the big sister" T-shirt. Choose a white or light colored shirt, and use a premade iron-on, or make your own using your computer and transfer paper. You can customize your shirt by adding the big sister's name to the front or back with a fabric marker.
"Big Sister" Cupcake
Make a special cupcake, and use a "big girl" character pick as a decoration. You can make an easy cupcake topper by sandwiching a toothpick between two stickers (look for "Big Sister" sticker in the scrapbook aisle of your local craft store).
Make a "Big Sister" Pin
Use a ready-made two-piece button badge kit from the craft store to create a personalized "Big Sister" pin. Use the paper insert that comes with the kit as a pattern, and use scrapbook papers and supplies to create a unique and special "Big Sister" badge.
Doll-sized Baby Gear
Buy a new baby doll for the big sister, and make a doll-sized quilt, cloth diapers and a little hat so that the big girl can take care of her own baby. You can sew these items from fabric, or knit or crochet them from yarn.
Make a Hospital Bag
Make a tote bag for the big sister to take to the hospital, or to keep at home while the baby is being born. You can make a small toy or game to keep inside, or decorate a notebook with her name and photo.
Ask each shower guest to bring a small item for the bag--things like coloring and activity books, small toys and games, and little treats make great choices.
Present the bag to the big girl at the shower, so she has something fun to keep her occupied while her mom is away.
